Champagne is a sparkling wine made from the fermentation of grapes. Unlike table wine, champagne is fermented twice, causing a carbonated effect and giving it a popular nickname of “bubbly.”
Only champagne made in Champagne, France can hold that name; others produced elsewhere are simply known as sparkling wine.
Champagne is highly acidic, which can damage tooth enamel, and contains histamines and tannins found in wine that often induce headaches. However, it does maintain some of the health benefits found in table wine. It is high in polyphenol antioxidants such as resveratrol, which help lower bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and prevent blood clots.
