Dextrose is a form of glucose that is commonly found in prepackaged foods as an added sugar. Dextrose is sugar derived from various starches such as corn, rice and wheat and it is often listed on ingredient labels as such (ex: “rice-sugar” or "corn-sugar"). It is a common ingredient in packaged table-sugar substitutes.
Its simple sugar properties make it popular among some athletes to raise blood glucose levels.
