Refined foods typically refer to grain products.

When a grain is refined, the nutritious bran, germ and husk layers are removed, leaving only the endosperm--or inner part of the grain.  Without the bran and germ layers, most of the fiber is also stripped out, increasing the glycemic index of the resulting food.

Meal Genius only offers and endorses whole grain foods. Always opt for whole grain products that have not been refined for optimum health.
