A bloom can refer to several culinary things including: the pale grayish streaks and blotches that appear on the surface of chocolate; the pale gray film found on the skin of fruits such as grapes and plums (this is Mother Nature's way of waterproofing and is completely harmless); and the natural, invisible, coating found on eggshells.
