Sucralose

library / Sucralose

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener which is approximately 600 times sweeter than sucrose (table sugar), twice as sweet as saccharin, and four times as sweet as aspartame.

As an organochlorine, it is manufactured by the selective chlorination of sucrose, in which three of the hydroxyl groups are replaced with chlorine atoms to produce sucralose.

A number of studies have raised concern about sucralose’s negative health effects.  On the mild side, sucralose has been found to act as an allergen and migraine trigger. More seriously, sucralose has been found to cause DNA damage and endocrine disruption. For more information on the dangers of sucralose, visit Dr. Mercola's website Sweet Deception.

Meal Genius does not endorse artificial sweeteners of any kind. Sucralose is on Whole Foods List of Unacceptable Ingredients.
