Black tea comes from Camellia sinensis, the same plant as most common teas like green tea. However, black tea is oxidized longer than other teas, changing the color from green to a rich black. Due to this process, it is typically stronger and lasts longer than other teas like green, white, or oolong.
Black tea is a caffeinated drink that helps improve alertness, memory and processing skills. Arguably more importantly, black tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols that provide a plethora of benefits that have been found to protect DNA and decrease the risk certain types of cancer. It also contains immune boosting alkylamine antigens and tannins that fight viruses.
Drinking black tea daily has been found to reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes and improve bone density. However, the caffeine in black tea can build dependency, so it is advised to consume moderately.
