Carrageenans

Carrageenans are are polysaccharides that are derived from certain red seaweeds. They are resistant to digestion and have been found to lower cholesterol levels in lab studies. Carrageenans also to have anti-viral activity against certain strains of the herpes virus and are being investigated for their potential role in HIV.
