Oolong tea, like green and black tea, is derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tree. The major difference is that oolong is semi-fermented and therefore falls directly between a green tea (which is not oxidized) and black tea (which is fully oxidized). This process maintains the healthful aspects of both green and black teas, making it a powerhouse of benefits.
Like other teas, its natural levels of caffeine and phytonutrients fight free radicals, boost energy, and improve cognitive functions. Oolong carries many antioxidants such as polyphenols that help fight diseases and prevent cancer.
Oolong tea also boosts your metabolism and, when consumed regularly, can lead to weight loss and lowered cholesterol. The various nutrients and antioxidants support healthy skin, teeth and bones.
