Place a large cast-iron skillet in the oven and heat the oven to 500 degrees F.
Bring the steak to room temperature.
When the oven reaches temperature, use an oven mitt and carefully transfer the pan to stovetop. Heat the pan over high heat for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, pat the steak dry and coat lightly with oil. Sprinkle with salt on both sides. Get a pair of tongs ready.
Place the steak in the middle of the hot skillet. Cook 30 seconds. Flip the steak with tongs and cook another 30 seconds.
Transfer the pan to the oven for 2 minutes. Flip the steak and cook for another 2 minutes for medium-rare. For steak to medium temperature, cook 3 minutes on the first side; then flip and cook another 3 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the oven. Transfer steak to a cutting board and tent with foil to rest 2 minutes.
