Cook bacon in large skillet just until crisp. Remove, drain and crumble.
Cut beef into 1 inch cubes. Add beef cubes to skillet and lightly brown.
Place beef cubes into slow cooker.
Add carrot and onion to skillet and saute 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in arrowroot. Add broth and mix well. Add vegetables to stoneware.
Finally, add crumbled bacon, wine, tomato paste, garlic, bay leaf, onions and mushrooms to stoneware.
Cover cook on High for 5 to 6 hours.
